GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from a Thornton Fractional Township High School will require that a student successfully complete a minimum of 43 credits during at least eight semesters of full-time attendance as indicated below.
The following graduation requirements must be successfully completed:
ENGLISH 8 semesters (successive) Must include the following:
- English 9*
- English 10*
- Introduction to Writing or Expository Writing
- Oral Communications
- 2 English electives senior year
*Satisfies the state writing intensive requirement
SOCIAL STUDIES 6 semesters Must include the following:
- World History
- United States History
- Government/Economics
MATHEMATICS 4 semesters/6 semesters (effective with Class of 2009 ) 6 semesters (effective with Class of 2010 must include 2 semesters of Algebra and 2 semesters of Geometry)
SCIENCE 4 semesters Must include the following:
- Biology or Applied Physical Science I
HEALTH 1 semester
PHYSICAL EDUCATION* 7 semesters
*Adaptive Physical Education, Drivers Training, Medical Waiver for P.E. may be arranged with counselors.
When students are scheduled for physical education, they may only be excused upon a written statement from a licensed physician, setting forth the reasons for the inability to participate in the regular physical education program. Placement in adaptive physical education shall then be attempted based upon a prescriptive statement from the physician. It is the student's responsibility to be dressed on a daily basis to ensure successful completion of the class. Failure to dress may result in removal from the class with a failing grade.
Electives to total the remaining number of credits required for graduation.
In addition to the above requirements, all students must pass the examinations on the Constitution of the United States and of the State of Illinois (administered in Government class). Accommodation of any unusual circumstances must be approved by the principal and superintendent.
FOUR YEAR ACADEMIC PLAN
Each student, in collaboration with his/her parents and counselor, will develop a Four Year Academic Plan. The Four Year Academic Plan will identify a desired post high school outcome, i.e., enrollment at a highly competitive four year college/university, competitive four year college/ university or two year community college or technical preparation program.
